Kinetiko Energy Ltd (ASX: $KKO) has revealed a significant onshore gas resource in the premier energy producing zone of South Africa. The company's resource stands at 6.0TCF (2C) with a prospective resource of 5.8TCF (2U) and a reserve of 6.4 BCF (2P) assessed over a pilot production field underpinned by an initial IDC JV. The gas sits in sandstone, above the coals, sealed and compartmentalized into reservoirs by dolerite sill/dykes, offering a conventional setting without the need for fracking or horizontal drilling. The discovery is strategically located 200km southeast of Johannesburg, adjacent to key infrastructure such as power stations, coal mines, and major pipelines and transmission lines.
The executive team at Kinetiko Energy is thrilled to announce the discovery of this substantial onshore gas resource in South Africa. This discovery comes at a critical time amidst the country's energy crisis, with daily rolling blackouts and the decline of aging coal energy. The company's focus on gas exploration and production aligns with the country's need for alternative energy sources to strengthen energy security and support industrialization.
Kinetiko Energy's unveiling of the enormous onshore gas resource in South Africa marks a significant milestone in the company's development dynamics and plan. The next steps involve drilling to confirm gas field production characteristics, identifying optimal development sites, and initiating the development of South Africa's largest onshore LNG project. The company aims to seek substantial gas reserve upgrades and potential listing in the UK, setting the stage for future development in the region. With a tight register and experienced board and management team, Kinetiko Energy is well-positioned to capitalize on this major gas discovery and contribute to South Africa's energy landscape.
