Southern Cross Gold Ltd (ASX:SXG) has announced the discovery of a new and large gold-antimony zone at its 100%-owned Sunday Creek Gold-Antimony Project in Victoria. The discovery, made 100 m to 150 m below the largest historic mine, includes high-grade vein sets and broad downhole intercepts, with visible gold occurrences and significant antimony content. The company's Managing Director, Michael Hudson, expressed excitement about the scale of the Sunday Creek gold-antimony system, highlighting the potential for doubling the size of the exploration target.
Michael Hudson, Managing Director of SXG, stated, 'Game on! The scale of the Sunday Creek gold-antimony system continues to grow impressively. This new discovery is located 260 m and 600 m west respectively of the Rising Sun and Apollo mineralised bodies. Our team's systematic drill approach led us to the new discovery, after we targeted the main dyke breccia host structure by N-S drilling. The mineralisation intersected in SDDSC130 remains open both up and down dip, as well as 500 m to the west towards the historic Christina mine where we have five drill holes pending results. Given this discovery, the Company has already planned a significant number of further holes under Golden Dyke.'
The discovery of the gold-antimony zone below the historic mine marks a significant development for Southern Cross Gold Ltd. The company's ambitions to double the size of the Sunday Creek exploration target are well underway, with the new discovery adding to the expanding Sunday Creek system. The systematic drill approach has proven successful, with the potential for further mineralisation at depth and towards the west. The project's location within the Melbourne Structural Zone in the Lachlan Fold Belt, along with the presence of antimony, positions Southern Cross Gold favorably in light of global supply chain dynamics. The company's use of the gold equivalent calculation and its consideration of antimony's critical role in various industries demonstrate a strategic approach to the project's development and potential future value.
