Petratherm Limited (ASX:PTR) has announced the discovery of high-grade titanium rich heavy mineral sands (HMS) at its Muckanippie Project area southwest of Coober Pedy in South Australia. The discovery was made through reconnaissance mapping, surface sampling, and re-assaying of historic drilling, revealing exceptional titanium mineralisation spanning many square kilometres at two prospect sites, Rosewood and Claypan.
The PTR Chief Executive Officer, Peter Reid, expressed excitement about the titanium discovery, stating that the mineralisation has been traced over a large-scale area and has significant potential as large tonnage direct shipment ore. He highlighted the strategic location of the Adelaide to Darwin railway, offering low-cost access to ports and global markets, and expressed the company's anticipation for the upcoming drilling in October to define initial grades and extent of the mineralisation.
Petratherm's discovery of high-grade titanium rich heavy mineral sands at the Muckanippie Project presents a significant opportunity for the company. The titanium mineralisation, with exceptional sample grades ranging from 10% to 50% TiO2, holds potential for various applications in electric vehicles, battery storage, wind technology, pigments, and steel alloys. The company's upcoming 4000-metre drilling program in October aims to assess the grade and extent of the mineralisation and the high-grade Titanium-Vanadium basement horizons. With titanium designated as a critical mineral by several countries and a forecasted growth in the global market size, Petratherm's titanium discovery positions the company for potential future success in the critical minerals sector.
