Beach Energy (ASX:BPT) has successfully commissioned the Moomba Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) project. Located in South Australia's Cooper Basin, the project began CO2 injection on 30 September 2024, ahead of schedule. It is set to capture and store 1.7 million tonnes of CO2 annually, marking a significant step towards emissions reduction. Beach Energy holds a 33.4% stake in the project, which is operated by Santos.
Beach Energy's Moomba CCS project has reached a significant milestone with the successful commencement of CO2 injection. The project is designed to store 1.7 million tonnes of CO2 annually, addressing one-third of Beach Energy's current equity emissions. It aligns with their strategy to cut Scope 1 and 2 emissions intensity by 35% by 2030. The project features advanced infrastructure, including compressors, injection wells, and pipelines, using depleted reservoirs for storage. As a key part of Australia's emissions reduction efforts, it underscores the importance of CCS in the transition to low-emission energy supply.
The Moomba CCS project is a significant milestone in our energy transition journey. It plays a crucial role in meeting our emissions targets and supports Australia's broader emissions reduction strategy,' said Brett Woods, Managing Director and CEO.
