St Barbara (ASX:SBM) is assessing an alternative approach for the Cochrane Hill Gold Project in Nova Scotia. The new design leverages successful ore sorting technology, aiming to process the sorted ore at the 15-Mile plant instead of a standalone facility. This initiative is expected to boost economic potential and reduce environmental impacts.
St Barbara's evaluation of a new design for the Cochrane Hill Gold Project focuses on using XRT ore sorting technology to improve economic and environmental outcomes. The redesign proposes a satellite operation at Cochrane Hill, transporting ore for processing at the 15-Mile facility, thus reducing capital and environmental footprint. The company aims to improve gold recovery, minimize water usage, and avoid relocating public infrastructure. Future steps include metallurgical tests and regulatory approvals, with the project promising economic benefits and community engagement in rural Nova Scotia. St Barbara continues to collaborate with partners and secure funding to ensure the project's success.
The Company is pleased with the successful trial of the XRT ore sorting technology, which has concentrated 89.7% of gold into 54.3% of the sample mass. The proposed design changes aim to minimize capital and environmental impacts by eliminating the need for a processing plant and tailings facility at Cochrane Hill. We are committed to improving community relations and engaging with local communities and First Nations as we move forward with this project.
