Variscan Mines Limited (ASX: $VAR) has reported the results of a comprehensive structural geological assessment at the San Jose Mine and surrounding Novales Trend in Cantabria, northern Spain. The study, completed by world-renowned expert Dr. Brett Davis, has led to a significantly improved understanding of the controls on multi-phase Zn-Pb mineralization at San Jose, identifying new drill targets and confirming the orientation of dominant structural trends as effective vectors for ongoing drilling and future exploration.
Variscan's Managing Director & CEO, Stewart Dickson, expressed satisfaction with the findings, stating, 'It has been a pleasure to work with the world renowned Dr. Brett Davis on this valuable piece of work. The findings provide a more complete understanding of the influences giving rise to the ore bodies within the San Jose and Udias mine systems. We are already applying the findings and have commenced drill-testing the new targets identified within the San Jose Mine. We have assay results pending from underground drilling conducted in Q4 2023 and look forward to releasing them as soon as practicable with further drilling results to follow thereafter'.
The structural and geological assessment at the San Jose Mine has provided Variscan Mines with valuable insights into the controls on Zn-Pb mineralization, leading to the identification of new drill targets within the mine and the broader Novales - San Jose - Udias corridor. The ongoing underground drilling campaign is already testing the new targets, with assay results from Q4 2023 pending. Additionally, the study has informed a planned surface drilling campaign for 2024 to test high-priority regional targets. Variscan's Managing Director & CEO, Stewart Dickson, highlighted the significance of the findings and the company's proactive approach to applying them in ongoing exploration efforts. The company's ambitions for further exploration and development in the region are evident in its advanced planning and permitting for the surface drilling campaign, aligning with the structural trends interpreted to control Zn-Pb mineralization. Variscan Mines remains focused on the acquisition, exploration, and development of high-quality strategic mineral projects, with a primary focus on the development of its advanced zinc projects in Spain.
